I guess I can assume that I have some residents? This is the second day in a row that my male has spent the night. Right now they are together hanging around the gourds. Something new this morning is a second pair was flying around. Does that mean that maybe I will get more?

I thought I had screwed up yesterday. I cranked down my T-14 to desparrow it and also to add some pine straw and my pair came. I said to myself I hope this doesn't scare them off. Apparently not for they landed on the gourd rack.

Martin Colony History: Taking care of 11 active public colonies and trying to start two more in northwestern PA. Also attempting to restart another one in southwestern PA, in Collier Township's Hilltop Park. In 2017, not sure what happened but the ASY male returned and then a couple of weeks later he was gone. It could have been weather related. No other birds showed up. I had a starling nesting at the Public site that I had trouble getting rid of.
In 2018, we fledged 629 martins at all of the sites.

Bret,

Congratulations on what appears to be a possible start for your colony. Make sure that you keep the housing sparrow and starling free, and just hope that the female likes your site as much as the male.

They ultimately seem to be the bird which decides where to nest.

Good luck in 2010.

Bill
