What is the best air rifle ?

bedrock jeff, Rogersville not that far from me by the way the crow flies 150 miles maybe? I can tell you my 5 PMs so far are not keeping warm tonight, got 6" of snow and temp. will dip to maybe 27 tonight.

I am originally from Northwest Mo. Settled in OKC cause that were a job was! I will be able to retire a second time in about 2 or 4 years. The wife and I have been looking at several final resting places. Could stay right here, but the Villages in FL. are very inticing, tennis, golf, and pool everyday would be nice course along with the weather.

I always had to site my gun in to shoot down hill and remember the clicks ( i can only shoot with a scope now my eyes don't focus to good to see iron sites), gravity has more of effect on the bullet than shooting straight or upward for what I experienced?.

YOu don't shoot black power ball do you? if you do, don't shoot into the bed rock the ball may bounce back at you!

CrisM, you can go to straightshooter.com and get you an air rifle already sited in, just have to shoot it a few hundred times to get constant at different distances and the barrel leaded in.

Well, I'll be the odd one here. I have a 5 year old Benjamine .22 cal. Does what I need, was fairly cheap($120.). 3-4 pumps is more than enough power and accuracy to take out sparrows and starlings, with my PM housing about 40' from the window.

The only thing I can ad is be sure whats behind where your aiming. The houses behind me are slightly elevated, so when I shot if I miss, it hits the roof...... yes, I miss every now and again.

RC, I hear ya - Florida is sounding pretty good right about now. 6 - 12 inches of snow just 35 - 45 miles from me (Humansville to Stockton Lake area), and I have nothing but a thin layer of ice...SO FAR, with all day tomorrow yet before we're clear of this mess.

No worries on the ricochets - .22 rifle, shorts, w/scope, and I rarely miss! I know PMs are in town, especially with today's reporting, but the city park's multiple houses have been there much longer than my 3rd year site, AND....those birds know where the Hilton site is in my backyard - a far cry better than their uncontrolled S&S infested sites. We had a horde of them last year helping all our new fledgelings learn to fly. What a wonder it was to watch 30 or more visitors just hanging out, knowing that first couple little ones were about to drop off the perch for the first time!

I've had a few different pellet guns that I've tried and the one that I have now that has consistently been the most accurate of all is the Beeman R7. This is a can't miss air rifle. It is super accurate, very quiet and very easy to handle. Since January 1st of this year I have plinked 22 Sparrows with this gun. I have an old S&K plastic house that I use as a shooter house that I have up on a pole that is very close to my deck, too close for the Martins to inhabit, but the Sparrows and Starlings love to try to nest in it all the time, thus a lot of euthanism has been going on around here. I highly recommend this gun, it's worth every nickle I spent on it.

I have a Gamo 220. It is a medium priced rifle that shoots 1,000 FPS. I'm not sure what the speed of sound is, but this delivers the pellet to its target before they can hear the sound of the rifle. Considering how small a target is at 30 yards, I would have to say this rifle is plenty accurate. It came with the scope. I believe I bought it from Cabella's. As with any type of weapon don't forget that you are also shooting at what's behind the target. Use of any rifle in the city is extremely risky.
