Hey guys we did it!

The IBA board and State Audubon board just declared Bird Island (on lake Ouchita) to be the 29th Important Bird Area in the state of Arkansas!

The kids are excited to say the least. Thanks for your help this past year.

It is time to move on to our next project now. Installing our new Purple Martin housing units. Thanks for the support guys we will continue to come here with questions on how to further our case study on this bird species.

Mike,
Congratulations on you guys accomplishments!

Once you get your purple martin housing up on campus, keep us posted with what is going on with that. I hope you guys can attract some to successfully nest there. It will be fun for the kids to experience starting a new purple martin colony. Take care.

Mike:

Congratulations and pass on a job well done to your students. They have invested a lot of time and hard work on their own time over the past couple of years to reach their goal of getting Bird Island designated as an IBA. Hopefully they have learned a valuable lesson at an early age that hard work does pay off.

Getting the martin housing set up at the school and hopefully attracting at least one pair of martins will allow the students to become involved with the arrival and nesting cycle of martins and the seed will be planted for future martin landlords. Job well done. :)

I will send you an email regarding getting the pole set up.
