Colony Update

I am offering 36 cavities same as last year.I was watching the activity pretty close early this morning and what was exiting where,again during social hour and again this evening,

I do not have 36 pair but I believe all cavities has at least one PM established and I estimate my total count to be 45 to 50.I just may go 100% again as I did last year.

I hope each and everyone of you have successful seasons.

I'm still sitting with an empty house. I'm starting to think that the storm last year that destroyed mine and killed most of the birds has done me in. :cry:

Thats tough to lose a colony I suppose for whatever reason but if it was storm related it should recover quickly say 2 to 3 years IMHO or at least get a good foothold.How large a colony was it?

Wow, I still haven't seen a single martin in my vicinity.

I had eight pair nesting. When I spotted the damage, a fox was eating the babies. I can't be sure about how many adults I actually lost. There were a few flying around the pole looking very lost with no house there anymore. I ran to town and bought another house hoping they would try again but it just sat there vacant the rest of the year.

Thanks for the update!

I'm just north of you in Katy. Had the 1st psir overnight last Wednesday. Had another single male a week later and gained 2 more since yesterday. All ASY so far. Last season I had 10 pair - 9 of them SY. The core of the migration seems to be on.

Have you seen any SY birds yet?

OK! I looked in my back yard this morning and there was a MARTIN sitting on top of the house. I don't know if he had gone in or not but I finally had one. I went outside to get a better view and he flew over to my neighbor's and checked out his martin house, then off to the next neighbor checking out his new Martin house. I had to leave town for a couple of days right after that and I'm going crazy not knowing if there were any more or if he came back. At least there is hope.
