The weather here in Northeast MD has been extremely crappy this winter with record snowfalls. The ground has been white for what seems like an eternity. I was trudging through the snow the other day to get to the barn when I heard a Starling doing his fluttering wing mating call from the perch of my lowered T-14. I actually thought it sounded wonderful because it gave me hope that the martins were coming soon. I did not even go into battle mode rather deciding to let him live another day because of the ray of hope he had given me that Spring and the martins were right around the corner. Will it really be March next week???

I can relate. Wisconsin winters are to damn long, cold and dark. And I heard a House Finch singing the other day so spring is not far away. You'd never know it though. Still cold and a lot of snow.
It's cold and snowy here in Kansas also, I am also tired as hell of it but I will probably gripe when it gets hot as hell this summer. Chuck exactly what is battle mode against starlings and HOSP in your area? I use a 12 gauge!! Hoping for spring, JIM.

Jim, S & S repeating trap, nestbox/gourd traps, and my personal favorite--a Chinese knock off rifle barrelled one pump pellet gun with a 22 cal scope that I got at a flea market for $50. I think I might just go clean it up and scope it in after I write this response! Hang in there...
