I ordered a couple of spare doors for my Sunset Inns through the PMCA. I then used the parts from Universal traps to modify the spare doors. I had a pair of sparrows that I have been doing battle with. I shot a male, but the female had a replacement in a short time. Today, I installed the trap door and withing 30 minutes, caught the female. Still waiting on the male.

I'd like to see the photo.

I catch some sparrows in my Trendsetters. I had trouble with the Trendsetter insert trap...was not sensitive enough for sparrows..I have fiddled with it and maybe made it more sensitive. But I've been using the universal trap. I shim the sides of the crescents in with some small rectangles of aluminum to about 1 7/16 wide. Sparrows go in, but martins cannot. With the Trendsetter, I can slip the little shims into an existing slot at the base of the door where some aluminum trim is located, but you would not be able to do with the Sunset door.

I should say, I don't know if the Universal Trap normally will fit the Trendsetter. I had cut mine down in height to slip it into yet another housing brand.

So..we're always adapting stuff and I look forward to learning more how you did it.

I have to go back to the drawing board. I had the male in the trap this morning. He was in the nest and wouldn't fly into the mesh bag I had over the entrance. I popped the door off and tried to remove him from the nest and only ended up with a few tail feathers. I was sick. I will figure something out and try again. I will try to get some pictures posted this afternoon.

You might try to reassemble the universal trap and use as is.

I've fiddled with my universal so much, I don't remember exactly what compartments it fits unaltered. I cut the round hole in it at the bottom some to make it lower, so I could sit it flush against my aluminum crescents. Unaltered, you can sit it back further and swirl some nest material between it and the door -- like a sparrow nest tunnel.

I do think sparrows enter better if the front aluminum crescent is shimmed some. I've tried shimming up the trap entrance (goal is to keep martins outs) but sparrows don't enter as readily. They may look in the front hole and see something new inside and hesitate.

Just ideas. Hang in there.
