I walked out on the front porch at 9:00 this morning (27 degrees) and heard that unmistakable sound. I walked out on the drive and she flew straight at me and started making passes right over head. I walked into the garage, got my flipping spoon, and she ate 12-15 meal-worms. High today is going to be 50 and windy so I’ll feed her a couple more times today. This is the earliest a martin has arrived by 2 days at my colony. Big ole GRIN!!

Just amazing.

In the photo on the porch, with her head feathers fluffed, looks like she's wearing one of those little dress hats women used to wear. (grin).

Keep 'um coming.

Martin Colony History: Started my Colony in 2008 with 32 gourds and one ASY pair. As of 2017 I had 106 cavities with 106 pair.

Ron I am relatively new to the forum, but those shots are awesome. I know I am asking too much, but I would love to see a picture of her running down once of those meal worms, if you have enough hands around to manage that. Doesn't hurt to ask right?

What fantastic photographs of your purple martin. Congratulations on your early arrival.

I definitely want to teach my martins to eat flipped insects. How fun that would be for vistors to witness. :)

As always your photographs are spectacular. It's interesting how many of us have had females return first to our sites this year.

It sure makes your day when your 1st Martin returns.
