Julio recently posted about some issues he had with a Sunset Inn..suggestions were made and ideas formed and advice was taken.
I also received suggestions and will be taking the well thought out advice.
That's what is wonderful about this and other forums. Like an online brainstorming of solutions for issues that can't wait. Threads are posted and solutions found quickly.
Thanks to all for your ideas, a coating of fusion paint now before any martins are around to smell wet paint or get feathers damaged by chemicals and paint.
But alas...An easy fix has turned into a world class faux pas to some.

Hey Susan,
I checked my storage shed and found an old can of Krylon Fusion For Plastic. This spray paint dries in 15 minutes or less and does not require sanding or priming. For new plastic or unweathered surfaces it is recommended you wipe over the surface with a standard paint thinner. For aged or weather surfaces, wipe down with ammonia based cleaner.
I have used this paint in the past and it adheres fairly well to plastic. Probably plastic does not lend itself to painting as well as wood for example. Just like with other paints, you might have to re-paint a surface periodically and certain environmental conditions may hasten that need.
For translucent plastic surfaces, it may take several coats of paint to block out light intrusion.
So the Fusion paint may work for you. There may be other brands that work even better on plastic.

Also, I wouldn't worry about those few individuals who have been offended by you identifying a potential problem with your martin house and then considering various solutions. You are doing what you feel is best for your martin colony and that is what counts.

Don't worry about it, but one has to be very careful with posts. I try to joke a bit here sometimes -- but not often. It's hard to get across humor --especially if you are over 50 and have not figured out how to insert the smiley faces!

Hi SusanH. I don't post a lot on the forum, because I found that my posts do come across wrong occasionally, and others take offense where none was intended. Then when I attempt to explain or rectify the situration, the situation just gets worse.

I've always used/recommended a product like armor-all or similar. It is made specifically for the problems with plastics. It preserves and has a UV block. My plastic gourds are many/many years old and look like the just arrived. Just my thought....

I know the worst part is when you try to explain.....it just does not get any better when someone wants to be angry with and/or at you...so like Harley said I also say "Amen".
