Martin Colony History: New site and housing for 2018...Trendsetter 12. 1 pair of subs. Fledged 5...2019...11 pairs

Thanks Steve

It's a great spot for martins. It's on the Intracoastal Waterway at a residential complex and marina. It's wide open and there's a nice colony one block away. The Myrtle Beach area hosts a lot of martins. I just need to speak with the harbor master about getting permission. I think she's going to be fine with it. If not I'm looking at some more options.

If the martins hold true to time one could be land tomorrow. It would be great for it to land today. Keep checking the site. Someone is going to very happy today or this week.

Marsha,

Are you for real  8) I know you had the first martins the past years around the 22nd of December, so I was sure you would be first landlady again......but actually reading it....OMG, I have goose bumps that won't go away.

Congratulations and best wishes for your 2009 Purple Martin Season 8) 8) 8)

I will believe the SY report if there is a picture to verify it. It is probably a ASY female.
It would be nice to see the Florida web cams rolling or more pictures to help some of get by before it is our turn.

I haven't seen a single scout here yet not even from other large colonies, i guess February is our month, for the eastern coast..

Took me five years and I only had one couple and that was last year, so don't give up. They are beautiful, absolutely one of God's most precious endeavors.

There should be a a few more martins coming into south Fl over the next two days, because of the southernly winds that help them fly in. I hope to see more postings over the next few days. The weather is going to be cooler starting Wed from a cold front that will be moving thru the state. Highs in the 70's and the lows in the the mid 50's.
