Last nest fledged yesterday (8-25)

This is the latest fledge date ever for me. I actually had another nest fledge the middle of last week. Kinda nice having a few extra weeks.

All others have been gone at least 3 weeks.

Did my last nest check yesterday (8/27/08). My last 2 HY birds had fledged. Same story, renest of 4 eggs on top of 4 buried eggs. All four eggs hatched but only two made it (one disappeared and one dead in the nest). This is the latest I've had martins fledge since I took over the colony in 1979. It WAS nice to have a few extra weeks of that sweet song awakening me in the morning and brightening my day afterwards.

I hope the two HYs grow strong enough to make the migration!!
