still around
This year I had 20 pairs and in years past it seemed like after they young had fledged it was all over but this year there are still quite a few hanging around. I counted over twenty this morning. I tend to think Iamb getting a fair amount of stop overs heading south. Any thoughts?

It could be both....
Our martins usually hang around for a few days after their babies fledged. Since the ASYs have their babies fledge earlier than the SYs we have quite a bit of activity for about a month after the first babie fledged. The last fledglings and their parents this year came by for about 12 days every morning and throughout the day. Then we had hurricane Dolly make landfall about 100 miles south of us and the weather got real bad and I did not see them for a few days until three days ago. They are coming to visit on a daily basis again.
Then of course, there are the visitors the go around and check other landlord's housing out. It is always so much fun to watch them because they are more curious and more excited than our own martins when visiting. That is at least how I think I can distinguish between visitors and "my" martins. Enjoy them as long as you can
