I had a large dairy farmer a few miles away from me ask if I could build some type of trap for him. In the winter all the starlings gather together at these big farms. My question is do they work pretty good and can you catch large numbers of starlings with them?

I got a catalogue from the Troyers and I think it said that they caught over 1000 in one season and I was thinking that one day or one weekend they caught several hundred. It was last year so I don't remember the exact numbers but I know it was high.
I met a guy at an audubon meeting who built one and said he caught 50+ sparrows in it and didn't have the heart to kill them so he let them go.

Kevin,
you can catch large numbers of them, if you use the right "lure" for the time of season. For example, if the starlings are in "nesting" mode, then you want to use the nest box trap. If they're just over-wintering or post-fledging then you'll want to use bait (using suet, dog food, etc.)

Kevin,
I think he would make a killing (No pun intended) since the Starlings are used to the grain as a food source. Just put it where they are used to eating with some grain and he will "clean up"
He might want a recipe for "Blackbird Pie" (you only need 6 and 20)
I crack myself up...

We have a book with recipes for cooking any and everything. Even mice.
