hi guy
ok i remember a while back you told people to try sevin in their kids beds to get rid of bugs.
we tried this but the sevin did not work good, and the kids just coughed a lot and got p off at us.
we then went to a.i.l. and sprayed them while they were sleeping for coodies and such and they began to smile in their sleep and no more coodies.
before they went to school we would spray them down good also. but some of them would run off and we had to get junior to run them down and bring them back.
now they just line up for spraying before school and they just love it. they like it so much that sometimes fights break out when someone tries to buck the line. i told them to cut it out or no more a.i.l. for them.
anyway, all is well here now and no more coodies, thanks to a.i.l. and you.
p.s. mary d. i now have bagged 127 sparrows with two months to go.

airborne,
No problem. Glad to oblige.
I understand that DDT is still being used in South America and Africa to control Malaria. I'm sure that it is available on the black market here. Since most folks seem to accept any product which might kill whatever enters a Martin compartment, with absolutely no scientific data to prove that it is safe to Purple Martin young, I see no reason not to dip, spray, sprinkle or dust with any chemical of your choosing. As I've said before, I'm not going to stop you. I found an old bag of Chlordane recently and I don't want it. I'd be happy to ship it to you, free of charge. Since Purple Martin young are impervious to any chemical, yet will die if a parasite comes within several inches of them I see no reason not to start an aerial spraying program of any county with a Martin colony present.
Sincerely,
that guy in michigan

I know this is obvious to everyone, but please remember these guys are only joking around.
(I probably look like a complete moron for posting that. However, just the thought of someone actually trying the aforementioned ideas, scared me into posting.)

Well, I don't believe airborne was joking about catching 127 House Sparrows with Spare-O-Doors. That feat has far exceeded my best year for trapping, with two months left to trap.
CONGRATULATIONS, AIRBORNE!!
Spare-O-Doors are amazing!

Aww Matt,
You take all the fun out. I was waiting for someone to take them through the car wash.

Well, since we are all in for the same purpose.....the LOVE and WELL BEING for the Purple Martins let's have fun while we take care of them and help them as much as we can.........I do not know if this makes sense, but we should all be able to get along and respect each other's difference in opinion, as long it is for the Purple Martins. Each one of us can only do "their best" and that is all that matters.....which might vary from person to person and landlord to landlord.....but we are trying our very best, right?!?!?!?!

...and that's why we ask questions of each other when we're unsure - so we can hear some opinions/experiences and make up our own minds.
A sense of community goes a long way to helping us through these situations...
(To add to your well put post, Astrid - hope that's okay. If not, I'll edit, of course.)
