Woohoo!!! First arrivals spotted at 5:45 PM Central Time this evening at our home in Sugar Land. The light is fading, but they appear to be a male and female. After flying over the lake and hovering over our heads--as if to say "Howdy! We're back!"--the pair flew into Excluder Gourd No. 4 in our 24-gourd rack.

Another first sighting of the season: A Cooper's Hawk landed atop our gourd rack at 6:00 PM. I had to shoo him off. He flew across the lake and kept going. Hopefully he got the message.

The current temperature in Sugar Land is 65 degrees F, but the forecast is for a low temperature overnight of 40 degrees. However, we have a large arsenal of crickets ready to fling if necessary! :)

Thanks, JJ!

We live in First Colony near Highway 6 and Missouri City. The martins seem to love the lake behind our house. :)

You should have some purple guests soon. Best of luck in Richmond this year!!!

Agreed. The temperature is still too cold for our friends. But by Saturday, we'll have 72 degrees and sunshine!
