Saw my first martin this morning  Simon and I were putting some more gourds on our Super System this morning and heard that very familiar sound!!!!! He started diving at us waiting for us to put his rack up. He is flying around just a singing in the back pasture so when he lands I will take some pictures. Don't you just Love that First One, it amazes me how they make me feel when they come in.

Thanks Craig & Dick..

I will have 72 total but I am adding more traps this year so 5 less for traps.
Emil saw his first this morning too Dick so they are just right around the corner for you. They are 3 days earlier this year from last year but my earliest has been January 26th so they are always within the same week for me.

Martin Colony History: 2002 -Coates metal houses- about 18 pairs
2005 - Added a gourd rack- many more pairs
2007 - Added another gourd rack, gave the Coates houses away
2008-2015 - Experimented with many gourds & a few racks (its a sickness) fledged over 200 chicks/year. Hubby keeps records, not me. :-)
2016 - 64 gourds and expect most will be occupied

wow that is wonderful! We are in Sugar Land and expect ours to arrive in mid Feb. Will we see you tomorrow night at the annual meeing? Sure hope you are there with samples of your nest cameras!

Thanks Sue, don't get a crick in your neck from looking up.

Thanks Jean! I won't be able to make it this year :-( I take care of my 9 month old grandson now and my daughter will be using my truck to go to work. Sure will miss saying Hi to everyone though.

I have my windows open so I can hear each time he comes back but he is to fast for my type of camera, maybe this evening when he comes in to stay.

YahHo Donna! Great to hear! My earliest is Feb. 2, so I expect them pretty soon. They are probably flying around my housing waiting for the landlord to come home from work
I'm a "nestcamaholic" Is 18 hours a day a bad thing? (I have 2 this year, luckily I have 2 eyes!)

Thanks Wyatt

I had two males, one went into the house but the other went to a tree behind me but he came in late. I will see what tomorrow brings.

Congratulations, Donna! Did you and Simon get those mods made in time for your new heavy-duty pole?

We had WICKED winds up here today and I am SO please I don't have to worry about my Martin houses and gourds getting blown over - as I did last year.

Thanks for the pictures - keep them coming!

Hi Gus,
Yes the modifications are made and yes I loved watching those poles not move  I LOVE these new poles!!!!!! We got the 2in. square last year and I loved it so this year we changed out two of our round poles with 3in. square and I don't think they can be beaten.

Adiekaty they will be there sooner than you think but the anticipation is what makes it so Great because we are like kids waiting for that special gift at Christmas
