I guess there wasn't as many birds died from the cold weather as I thought. It was in the 30's and 40's for six days in Llano. We are about 70 miles northwest of Austin. Good for you Vern1 for being able to feed them. That has to take lots of patience and work. Sorry for your loss, eyeamtheman. I kn...

Starving Martins.
Wondering how many Martins were lost during the recent week of cold weather. I had several come by and go inside the houses. I'm sure they all probably perished somewhere, but I only found 2 dead in the Trio Houses

I had a flyby on Feb.10th that just circled around and made a low swipe over my gourd rack but he didn't land. I had about 5 or 6 come on the 18th and have stayed so I have opened and raised my houses and gourds. It has been around 30 degrees ever since Wed.25th They are all huddled up inside and ha...

Martins in Llano, Tx.
I have 6 Martins that came Saturday and paired up and spent the last two nights in my Trio houses. I think they're keepers but it's 42 degrees right now and it's supposed to come a light freeze here tonight. They came in to roost early today because they couldn't find anything to eat. I had several ...

Victor your post always amazes me. How you can keep up with that many Martins and have a decent count at the end of the season is incredible. I only have twelve cavities (2 modified Trio Grammas and 4 Natureline gourds). I had 10 pair and fledged 53 hatchlings this year. The last ones fledged a coup...

Thanks all for the replies. I'll try the tape. Has anyone ever tried Velcro or do you think they might get tangled up in it. I have to go tro Dallas for a few days starting wednesday. Sure would like to see them enter before I leave. Hi grandmac.2. What part of Tow do you live in? I see lots of PM h...

starlings, Martins and SREH's
I've been having starling problems. Last week I found a dead Martin in a cavity that a starling had claimed. I'm sure that the starling killed it. I have 2 Trio 8 Granma houses. I decided to install SREH doors that I got from PMCA. Ever since then my Martins try to wiggle and squirm into them, but I...

Hi Sharon, I'm about 65 miles west of Georgetown in Llano. On Feb.4 I had four stop by for a little while, then they left. Later a couple more stopped by and left. I didn't have my houses up then. I suppose all these were still heading north. This morning I had 5 or 6 landed on the poles and flew ar...

Here they come....
HaHa, I had 4 asy's land on my poles this morning. I had to leave, so don't know how long they stayed. My houses are down, but four of them landed on the perch. Of course there was already a sparrow setting beside them.
Rats. It's gonna be a good year though I can tell.
