pmcharter1, I will definitely be visiting your website and contacting your friend Dave! So far we haven't seen further evidence of the nightime menace, but I know that doesn't mean the GHO has given up. Again, thank you so very much for your input. It seems most people today are so caught up in thei...

Thank you all for your much needed advice. I think that we will try the wire guards that you mentioned Scully. Thank you for posting the pic. PMcharter1, do you know who manufactures the owl racks that you suggested? I am curious about just how much money this remedy would set us back. We have battl...

Ronnie, we too have found two dead PMs today inside their gourds. I know for a fact that it's not a starling in our case because of the SREH. I'm thinking house sparrows. Were your birds in their housing?

We use homemade predator guards on both our PM and BB poles. We found the plan in a book all about blue birds. We used a section of 8" stove pipe and fashioned a collar to attach the stove pipe to out of pressure treated wood. A radiator hose clamp holds the collar in place on the pole. The BB ...

An owl named Arnold

Hello PM friends, Hope you all are doing well this season. We have been doing GREAT since changing to SREH. No more starling woes! But alas, there is a greater threat lurking in the night.....After an outing on Saturday evening, my husband and I came home to find a great horned owl sitting on our PM...

Emil, thanks for your tips! I am happy to report that three more starlings took a dive this afternoon thanks to my husband's 410 shotgun. Never even saw starlings around here until a careless neighbor allowed them to nest in his attic. I tried to convince them to make repairs and evict them, mainly ...

Most hideous bird EVER! If you've ever witnessed what they can do to our martins and other native birds, you would understand. AMEN hat1978. The only good starling is a DEAD starling!

Do you guys use a blind? Dress up in full camo? The starlings around here are very leery of us. My husband shot his first starling yesterday with a pellet rifle. We celebrated!! We are looking into other ways to rid our martins of these sorry vermin. I want a trap, but haven't found one that will fi...

Mid-season entrance change

Wanted to know if anyone has ever changed entrances when there are nestlings in the gourds? We are having problems with starlings and were considering changing to a crescent entrance, but don't want to stress the martin parents. Perhaps we should wait until next year to make the change. We are getti...
