Re: Crickets
I would like to add a couple more tips to support the previous replys. 1) We use mostly superworms - Freeze them in Ziplock Baggies 2) When ready to feed remove just enough that you may need 3) Place in a small glass dish and add a little water 4) Place in Microwave to thaw and remoisten - Usually 3...

Lowering the Housing will not cause any problems at all.....
I do it frequently and have actually left it only 4-5' off the ground for
more than 48 hours at a time (blizzard conditions).

Re: I need advice regarding mealworms
Billie Actually the advice I can give is to go online and order some Superworms from online retailer such as Fluker's Cricket Farms. You can also order some crickets (larger the better in my opinion). Once they arrive you can freeze the worms and crickets for a short time. Then remove and place in z...

Good to here.. A Landlord it seems gets to know some of the tendancies or habits of certain birds it seems. We had a female show up saturday that I'm assuming was not from my colony. She did not know the drill around here ,...... She hung out by herself --- she slept in------ she stayed up late---- ...

Re: Trees close to PM housing
Mayboy I like some have a colony mostly surrounded by trees. 1 Conifer within 45' and 2 deciduous trees at 40' and another deciduous tree at 45' and many more too numerous too mention. I believe this is where patience pays off in establishing a colony as I was at the end of mine more than once. All ...

Have you seen other housing.... Just because scout report shows no landlords does not
mean there is not any birds around.
Might want to duplicate other housing if its nearby.

Re: Will there be new interest in heating elements for martin houses ?
For the landlords that strictly have gourds it would be challenging. But anythings possible I guess. I see there is mini heat pads available 1 measures 9" x 12" and the other 1 I googled measured 4" x 5". Small enough to fit in compartments or gourds. A few extension cords and so...

Re: Ferocious Battle Between Female Martin And House Finches
Gene Last summer I had 1 natural gourd in my colony that fledged 3 finches on may 13 then a sy pair set up camp and managed to fledge 4 all in the same gourd.Their was no aggressive behavior all summer between the house finches and martins. I know it sounds unusual but this is what we witnessed last...

Re: Could use some cementing advice
Billie No need to pour any concrete at all. Do it next year or in the fall. Last year I reconfigured my poles and I did not want to cement in just in case I was not happy with locations. So I just filled up some sand bags and put alongside the poles to make it through the season. I have the 2" ...

Lizzie Ed did such an outstanding job answering your question that there might not have been much more to add. I myself just lurk around and read the posts and try to learn as much as I can with out being part of the conversations. As far as lack of responsiveness right now I think there are alot of...

Thanx - I've been spending the last few evenings trying to find SY's.
Why is finding the male SY's so important (especially on the scout arrival study)?

Has anyone ever tried Tempo for bug control.
My friend and I thought this might work Good.
When we use it around our house it will last through a couple of rains before it starts to lose its effectiveness.
