Re: South Louisiana Colonies - 2021 Recovery Comparisons

Lane
I lost 16 birds in the freeze and ended up with 10 pair that came after. I thought that was a good rebound.

Re: Updates from everyone?

Same here I'm starting to lose them even with stuffing mealworms and crickets in their gourds. No way they'll make 24 more hrs not feeding

Re: Meal worms from Walmart question.

I ordered crickets and mealworms from Fluker Farms (located in Louisiana) and they were at my door within 24 hrs.
You may be able to order now and I guess receive them Monday or Tuesday. Just an FYI

Re: I’ve inherited Martins! How to do the right thing?

Susan, I wonder if you could find someone that has a martin house up near you that maybe you could approach. Would probably be willing to lend you a hand....just a thought. I think I've read that using diatomaceous earth can create some issues....others may chime in that know more about it. Good luc...

I would like some ideas on this subject also. Lost 2 adults last year and saved a 3rd. All connley II entrances.
Emil's sideboards sounds like an option but haven't tried them...…...

Re: I’ve inherited Martins! How to do the right thing?

ADMINS..…. Could you possibly set something up where willing members could donate $ to buy and ship this lady a new house or gourd rack??

Also, if someone is in her neck of the woods that could lend a hand on set up etc.... please shout out.

Re: Question about different types of openings

Thanks Emil. I will install them this off season. I haven't had any starling breeches so I think I will put them flush with the outside edge of the Connelly II entrances. Thanks again

Re: Question about different types of openings

Emil,
Will the sideboards also prevent or diminish wing entrapment? I have all connley II entrances. Do I place the sideboards flush with the sides of the connley entrance? I lost two males and luckily saved one female this year from entrapment.

Joe. If any of the nest checks are greater than 7 days apart, are you saying all the data on the sheet will NOT be used?
Please let me know. If that's the case I'll just keep my own records and not bother with submitting the data sheet.

Re: Gone overnight!

That is odd.....like The Smiths said, possibly predation from a snake, owl, hawk etc.
I'm in Prairieville also if you would like me to take a look, send me an email. [email protected]
Although it sounds like there's no evidence to see.

Re: The awful has happened...daggone starlings!

I 2nd the Airmaster 77 recommended by Lizzie. Have been using one for years. Cheap gun, lightweight, accurate and you get to choose how much force you need with amount of pumps. Only need to try different pellets to determine which one it likes.

Rack changes

Last year, two racks with an old Trio and Troyers on each pole. A mix of round and connley holes. 12 pair that used both hole types. This year, removed the Trio's, added more Troyers and converted the existing rounds to connleys. Just wondering if I can expect any adverse reaction from returning bir...
