the sparrows are SO bad

The sprrows are so bad this year I do not know what to do. As soon as we put the house up they were on it like a swarm of bees. We have used the trap door, but as soon as you reset it another is in it before you are down the ladder. The repeating trap on the groung catches other birda. What will the...

Last night about 8:10, the sky filled with the beautiful squawking of alot of martins, hard to count, came in to roost in their own houses. We miss them, but are so very glad to see them fly and not die. At this time maybe they will roost here and not at the east side of town roost yet. they have ro...

Thank you Mr Robinson for the roost information. We are unable to watch tonight. It sounds amazing, with "10s of thousands" of martins. Please do post pictures and wave hello to our purple friends from the west side of town.

The yard is sadly quiet today

The last of the babies fledged yesterday, they beat the heat this year. Last year was so sad with all the jumpers. Bill put both houses on one pole with a -T- he built and added a winch because of the extra weight. This year we were prepared to add the mister to cool them down. 31 eggs and 29 fledgl...

Today is a better day to be a purple martin. We had eleven jumpers yesterday; five dead and six Bill replaced when the afternoon cooled a bit. We live in the city with cats in the area. Sorry to anyone loosing birds. Sue we too are researching.

Missouri sightings

Thank you Louise Chambers for your response and also Mr. Borke. My question is now where is he? Would he roost around a factory or the powerplant for warmth? We do not use pine straw. We clean their houses and let them tend to the nests. We do have hand warmers (thank you Louise great idea). Lenora

Missouri sighting

Dear Mr. Borke, I posted my sighting to share information, not to be called uncredible. Monday, March 1 late afternoon I looked out at the houses and sitting on the porch was an adult male. I hollered at Bill, he got his binoculars and confirmed what I saw, he flew away shortly after. We have been e...
