Todd, Hopefully next year I can catch you when you are home. Its rather amazing that I found your colony. I just was birding the area doing a project called Bird Breeding Atlas when I came upon your house. Glad you at a great year. Hopefully we can meet each other in person in the future. Its always...

Lewy39, The public site is behind the Wood Bridge Health Campus on Chase Rd. I live about 3 miles from there. I sent you a PM earlier this summer, but I not sure if you ever got it you might want to check you PMs. John, Thanks for the encouragement. Hopefully I can make the next PMCA conference. Lan...

It was a Good Year

2011 season for me was another great season. This year there were a little more problems than last year, but it still turned out to be a great year. My home site failed to attract more pairs. I end up with 1 pair which fledged 4 young. The male of my pair was probably the same male which started my ...

Congrats Todd . Isn't it the greatest feeling when finally after a few years of trying you finally get martins. I hope your colony grows next year.

Jeff, I know of a colony near me that has unmodifed Trio housing and does great, but I would modify your ompartments. Martins love compartments that are modify. In my opinion I would modify the house and get a small gourd rack. Martins in my opinion like gourds better than metal houses, and many try...

Bernie, I would have to agree with you about the metal housing. Metal housing is just to cold and the compartments are just to small. I agree with you about wooden housing, but don't forgot about gourds. I think at least in southern and the middle range of martins, martins are more attracted to gour...

Dsonyay, Martins usually fledge at 28 days. About nest checks there are two things you can do. You either can stop nest checks at 19-20 days or you can continue to do nest checks using the cup and string method to do nest checks. Here the link about what I'm talking about http://www.purplemartin.org...

Lewy39 Check Your Messages

Lewy39 I sent you a private message. This is a good reminder for everyone to check you messages frequently because even if you put (contact me if I get a message) it doesn't always do it. Last year I found a message from someone that I didn't know about until I checked my message a few months later....

Thanks Louise. I do have one more question. On the electronic martinwatch data one of the colums says enter date of nest check here. Do I enter the date and the contains of the nest in that column?

Thanks.

I had a subby pair check my housing out this morning. Its kind a of late, but who nows I might get another pair.
