Facing your pole run your rope through the top left pulley (red arrow) bring it around and over the top and through your bottom left pulley (red arrow). Bring it behind your top right pulley and thread through the top (blue arrow) and bring it straight down and through your bottom right pulley (blue...

Re: Colony Starter ASY vs SY

Would anyone else care to share their colony starter? I find it interesting that in these responses it has been predominately ASY's starting the colonies.

Re: FREE FREE Martin Pole and Houses in South Alabama

I am interested. What tools would I need to bring in order to load on my truck? Does the pole come apart in sections?

https://skmfg.com/pages/instructions-how-to

"INSTRUCTIONS FOR OTHER S&K PRODUCTS " is the heading it is under. Click on the Ultimate Tunnel Instructions and it will open a PDF. I couldn't attach the PDF for you.

Yes, you do have to drill all 4 corners with a .25 diameter drill bit.

Re: Colony Starter ASY vs SY

I am glad to see so many ASY colony starters. That would be great to have an ASY show up and start it and not have to wait for another month or so for a SY to hopefully show up and start it for you

Colony Starter ASY vs SY

I am curious, which started your colony... ASY or SY ?

I only had visitors last year but I am looking forward to the possibilities of 2024. Everything is up and ready for any purple martin takers

Re: SK Boaxis Gourd impressions

Can you not push the tabs in from the inside giving a smoot surface and the push pin part would be hanging out the bottom of the tunnel under the gourd out of the way. LOL...love it but I do feel like the fool now. Great observation...reminds me of Billy Bob and Slingblade during the "ain't go...

Don't give up yet because it could happen in an instant! The colonies around me are fledging or on the verge so I am pretty sure I am done but they still come by and visit once a week. Good luck to you!

Re: New to Purple Martins

It's crazy how every Sunday I will have a visitor or two or three. I have chalked this year up as a big learning curve full of visiting Martins. So with that, I have added a Waters Edge 8 room condo with the 6x12 compartments and a S&K barn that I modified into the 6x12 compartments and closed o...

SO JEALOUS !!! I keep seeing glider type birds around and flew my song magnet up the post this weekend.
Yeah I am getting a lot of activity which helps but I'm still impatient for some to stay, lol. I hope you get to see some action soon!

Re: New to Purple Martins

I have pine straw in 4 of them and left 2 empty. I have also rubbed mud around the entrances and the porches. Today has definitely been different than the previous visits I’ve had. Hopefully they liked the setup.

Re: New to Purple Martins

Today has been a very active Martin day. I had a ASYM, ASYF and a SYM. They stayed around about an hour. The SYM has been numerous times since. I have yet to see one go all the way in a gourd. They only put about half a body length in there. Couple questions: 1) Since this is a new site and I am a n...

Re: New to Purple Martins

Well the Sunday tradition continues as two SY Martins showed up yesterday. They landed on the gourds checking them out. I see no evidence of them staying or nest building. As I said in a previous post it could be happening on other days because I work weekdays but I've never seen it on Saturday.

I sure hope they are eating them. The only predators I know of is a windshield and a white bucket with a little diesel in it!
