How late in the summer do PM's lay eggs and hatch them?

Is it too late in the summer for me to believe that I might get a family of PM's ??? How late in the summer do they breed?

Magnetic Speakers

By reading some of the contents, I have decided AGAINST buying the magnetic speaker. For one, it isn't what I thought it was. Someone mentioned the length of wire and I thought this was a "wireless" speaker system. Two: I'm convinced that nothing I do will attract the Martins, since I've s...

Magnet Speaker

Has anyone used the Magnetic Speaker Attraction advertised in the PMCA Shop? I play my CD on a standard CD player but it isn't very powerful and the sound cannot be heard 50 feet away. I'm wondering about the volume of the Magnetic Speaker thingy and if it is effective in attracting birds?

How critical is the heighth of crescent opening?

I have plastic gourds and I made some porches by cutting vinyl siding corners and sliding them down over the opening. That reduces the height of the opening approximately 1/8 of an inch. Is that too much? I am a newbie and really am starting to get a little fed up. I've had martin houses up for the ...

2 looky loos. What can I expect next

I had two looky loos visit my gourds a few days ago but haven't seen them since. One was an adult male, the other was either a female or a subadult male. Will they be back? They took quite an interest in the rack of gourds, entering at least one of the gourds before flying away. What can I expect?

Will Redwinged Blackbirds keep Martins away?

I have a purple martin house near a pond, near some electrical lines and have seen a half dozen or more circling above our home. None have landed to inspect the house. I also have redwinged blackbirds who live in the cattails near the pond and sit on the electrical wires. Will they scare the martins...

Here in Western Kentucky (Morganfield) I had not seen much activity here at my house until yesterday. Most activity was 12 miles south of here at the Sturgis golf course. Yesterday there were at one time about a dozen PMs flying high over the house. A group of six circled and came lower. They inspec...

 We had a pretty bad windstorm through here and yesterday evening the Purple Martins did not return. They are not there this morning either. I hope they are OK and can find their way back. I played golf Thursday so I was not out in the yard all day, but every other day except Thursday, I spent ...

New Arrivals

I'm sure these are not tree swallows. I had them last year and I kept taking the house down and digging their grass and stuff out. They finally gave up and didn't come back. Like I said, I am 99.9% sure they are PM's. It is hard to determine the size from where I stood watching them. They have the w...

New Arrivals

Well I hope this is a good sign. The Purple Martin couple that has been coming back each day since Saturday are back again this morning. I am 99.9% sure that they are Purple Martins, one is dark black (I'm color blind so it's hard to determine exact color) and the other is grayish with lighter gray ...

New Tenants?

As a follow up, the two PM's that were there this morning were sitting on the porch about 8 this morning and I walked out and looked up at them and said, "Good Morning, I hope you had a nice stay" They just looked at me. I stood there for about two minutes and they flew away. About 11 a.m....

New Arrivals (Lookie Loos or Renters)

Yesterday I was mowing the lawn when a group of about 12 PM's flew over really high. A short time later 4 of them circled and landed on the house. As I approached the pole with the lawn mower they flew away. When I was 20 yards away, they returned. They repeated this a few times then the last pass I...
