I think I would put a 1 by board between the two straps on each side. Usually straps are for resisting pull instead of push. Just cut to fit then a few screws into boards edges to make the straps rigid.

If you know an hv/ac guy you could ask him where to buy coil cleaner. I have seen some in use and it was so simple and very effective.
