Every year ours come back, they always know my whistle when I go out to feed him so I know exactly what you're talking about, ours are all trained to supplemental feed as well, the only difference is I can't tell the difference between who is who like you can with yours. That is so cool for you

Re: Female purple martin arrived in Lockridge, Iowa on Feb 26th
Oh boy, I'm worried they're coming way too fast. Last year in May we still had cold weather in Ohio and I ended up losing some. And we are still only in February or early March. Maybe the birds know more than what we do as humans and the weather will stay nice. I pray so

Re: ohio T-14 Question
We have 6 T-14 Houses ...No vents, make sure you do a next change about 10 - 15 days after they hatch and you shouldn't have jumpers.....Cause of jumping is most likely bugs in the nest.

Re: Finding licensed bander in sW Ohio
Spoke with bander about becoming a federal bird bander. It takes a lot of training and work. Once you become a bander then everyone else will want you to come band their birds and you will spend less time at your own colony enjoying your birds. Not saying that it wouldn't have its rewards just throw...

Re: At what temperature do insects stop flying.
Agree if its under 50 degrees they will need insects......Usually day 2-3 of cold weather under 50 will get them started and if you get them flipped up close to where they are sitting they'll bite.....You wont save them all but if you can save 1 its worth it.
