Re: Purple Martins in Ontario, Canada
Wooden housing is a lot warmer than metal housing. Most northern landlords use wooden housing. It helps early arriving martins
survive those cold spells.

Roofless martin house
My neighbour here in New Brunswick Canada, who had a large purple martin colony, told me that once a wind storm ripped the roof from one of his martin houses. To his surprise, the martins continued to feed their young and had successful nests. The funny part of the story is the martins continued to ...

Hi Ray, I am wonderng when you lose a parent martin like that, have you ever considered taking one or two of the single parent nestlings and placing them in another compartment with two parents? That could ease the burden on the single parent martin. I did that once with tree swallows. The mother di...

Hi Ray, I visited one of our few remaining colonies last week. There were 13 ASY martins flying around, and the landlord later told me she counted 27 adults feedign young last year. I don't believe any SY birds have arrived yet. so it appears this colony is doing well. The housing there is a wooden ...

My first and only brood of nestlings was killed by an ASY male. He drove off the SY male and the mother SY watched calmly as he pulled each of her nestlings from the compartment and dropped them to the ground. I repeated replaced the nestlings in the compartment, but the ASY male finished the strugg...

Would like to contact any PM landlords in Maine
I am in New Brunswick, Canada and would like to get in contact with purple martin landlords in Maine. I see were 2 scout reports from Maine, so I am wondering if there are many active colonies in the state. There are less than 10 in New Brunswick.
