I've lived at my current property since 2007. Every spring, I get an enormous house fly infestation, especially since my neighbor behind me got chickens. The flies were so bad, I couldn't even enjoy my back porch without flies landing on me. We were constantly swatting flies, inside and out. I had to buy several fly traps and place them around to get the fly problem under control. This was my routine every spring. This year, I have no flies at all. I couldn't find a fly if I looked for it. I haven't had to buy fly traps or baits. The neighbor still has chickens. Rainfall is the same. Nothing has changed, except for having around 20 martins this year. I honestly thought flies and martins flew at a different altitude. So how could I credit the martins? Anyone have any insight on this?

Martins do eat flies but not sure about members of the house fly family. The species of flies eaten probably varies greatly based upon one's location in the nesting range and proximity to water.
