The Chirpy Nests are occupied now. The martins seem to love them (especially me).
But the house and gourds are still loved by martins lol

- Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.
2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)
2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.
2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged
2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(
2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go. :)
Great video!
That was a gorgeous shot of them all cupping in to land on the rack.
I wonder if the Chirpy Nest maker has ever considered making a multi-compartment Chirpy Nest house? Using the same great features of the current, individual units, and incorporating those into a large, multi-compartment house?

Thanks! I went went to his YouTube page and it seems he has some different type boxes that appear to be multiple units.Matt F. wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 1:04 pmGreat video!

I’m planning to buy a few more later on to use for next season. They appear to be loved by the martins, well made, and not overly expensive. Shipping is a bit steep but not bad if ordering a few at a time.

Nice video dsonyay. The martins look happy and healthy. Matt. F, I was thinking the same thing when you mentioned if Chirpy would ever make a colony style housing using the chirpy compartments.
Mite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.
Did you use the mulched pine needles in the Chirpy Nests? I would love to have that many this year...good for you! P.S. I like the look of your diverse rack! peace, Dougdsonyay wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 12:43 pmThe Chirpy Nests are occupied now. The martins seem to love them (especially me).

Hi Dave,
I was poking around, and found some videos posted by the maker that shows some multi-compartment Chirpy Nest units. They look really good, but I'm not sure if they're available any longer?

Thanks Matt for the update video. Neat to see that great minds think alike. Great design. In the future if I decide to go over the 100 cavity mark, I may buy a few of these.

I use regular pine straw ... not sure what is meant by “mulched”. I bought a bale of it at Home Depot for about 10 bucks (which is far more than I’d need in a lifetime.).white-out wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 3:02 pmDid you use the mulched pine needles in the Chirpy Nests? Thanks for the kind words.
