Well I am from Lancaster County, PA and a local Amishman gave me a 12 room house last year, and also I bought another 12 room and placed them about 30 feet from my house. put them up late in the season and did not attract any. put them up in March of this year and shot many
S & S. but no Martins. I broke down and bought a decoy and dawn song CD and have been driving the neighbors crazy with it but low an behold there has been a martin at the house every morning for the past 4 days and this morning when I looked out there was two martins on the house and the female was inside one of the compartments. they hung out for an hour and then flew away, I am hoping they return but being new to this I have no idea. But I am a firm believer in the dawn song and the decoy.

Chris,

The dawnsong and decoy are some good tools to get started with. I know when I started out playing the dawnsong they would just about land on the speaker. With the female being inside your compartment, thats a good thing  She's already got one picked out...

If they come back and decide to stay, I would stop playing the dawn song. Nothing can beat the real thing. Plus people say they have seen it bring in predators. Not sure what type of location you have? Hope they come back and decide to stay.

Good luck

Keep an eye out for them tonight from about 1 hr before dark to darkness and if you see them , they are probably gonna stay. If you don't see them that doesn't mean they won't but when they spend the night that usually means you got em hooked. Good Luck. If you get them this year, your colony will grow each year to the amount your set ups allow, atleast on the average colony. I started with 1 pair then 11 and then 22 last year and I think I am close to that this year which is about right for me
