Not sure, but I believe there is only one version of WDC. The name confusion arises because it is sometimes called a "modified excluder".

It is actually a modification of the patented excluder. It is named after its inventor, Willie D. Conley.

Here is a very nice gourd article by John Barrow of Corpus Christi, TX:

There is only one WDC, but because it fell under the patent that was written for the Excluder, the patented holder wanted it called the WDC Modified Excluder.
Don't ever, ever give up. It will happen.

I thought that the original WDC was made by making three equally-spaced overlapping 1-3/16" diameter holes in a horizontal row, to arrive at a hole 3" wide at its widest point. Then you file the top 2 pips flat. Maybe that was some other design. I cannot find any reference for this.

Tony, that is an easy way for a do-it-yourselfer to make one that works the same way as the WDC, but it does not exactly match the original WDC
