Since I arrived home today there have been two attempts by an immature coopers hawk to sneek into my yard. Both times he was twarthed by the alarm calls of starlings.I don't know how they see the hawk first, but it appears they all ways do.Since they are unable to nest in my yard, they nest under the eaves of houses in the area.Right now one is displaying two houses down on top of the roof as I wright this.I don't know if the hawk was trying to zero in on the martins or the other song birds in my yard.I saw an adult coopers on Monday. This is the latest I have seen coopers here.I hope this is not a sign of things to come with the hawks. There is some irony here ,starlings sometimes kill martins ,but sometimes they save them too...

Hopefully NOT a trend.

I have read that Cooper's are now as common as Red-tails in Wisconsin, and certainly Steve K has reported more than one colony decimated by these hawks in Florida.

With all the millions of White-winged Doves we have now nesting in virtually every town and city in Texas it is hard to imagine why Cooper's couldn't become common breeders here too. :???:
