To lynnh,
It's the same here in northern Illinois, within 10 miles of Wisconsin :!:
Up to a few days ago we had seen only one subbie male among our colony; but, while watching the colony thru binoculars today, I counted at least three. Also, I observed green leaves being brought to nine gourds -- not counting three other gourds where I know there are eggs in the nests.
In the next few days we will do another nest check. Based on the above, I expect to report good results about the number of nesting pairs. :)
That would be really good news
Then I would be most happy to update my profile :!:

Just had a new sub male pull in early this afternoon, it looks intrested. Have only had three subs here this year so far, one is staying but haveing trouble getting a female to stay. Only have two pr. that are hatching youngsters as I speak. It would be nice to see a few female subbies come in. It seems that the girls are always in high demand around here. Ed.

I am on my way back home from a week long Hawaiian cruise. Sure would be nice to see some Martins had moved in during my absence. That would be my ultimate welcome home. I've got my fingers and toes crossed. I had a good time but I sure missed being around during the migration.
