In Seguin, TEXAS  .. 34 have hatched, 9 discard/missing, 190 active nests, and 86 PMNs yet to yield eggs. SYs are building nests like there's no tomorrow and lots of new arrivals at dusk trying to find billeting. I'm trying to send them on as we are quickly filling up :???: God bless all  Friend In Texas--- 8)

To date, our Texas landlords to the north seem to be having fantastic egg laying and fledglings already.....HOORAY!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad your efforts are paying off so well. South Texas is a little frustrating but you all are picking up the slack! Thanks for being a great landlord!

WOW! I guess I have to move South.
Tell your guest there is plenty of hospitality North with double accommodations and free B&B.

I guess it is true what they say about Texas.

Tony, great work over there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sheryle and I are off to a great start this year. 116 eggs so far and about 5 nests ready to go. We are expecting to see about 130 eggs on Sunday. This is early for this many nests with eggs. Smart birds, beat the heat. Keep us posted. Hopefully the storms this morning will bring lots of rain and little damage.

Another great year for you, Tony. I don't know how you keep it all straight.

I have just about got my system down. I made up my own "jot sheet" which I then transfer to my main sheet.... But even with my small colony, it's a challenge. I can't imagine if the heavens opened above me and poured out hundreds of Martins like you have.

Keep up the good work. I really admire you.

Thanks RC & Fred

Ken & Sheryle--- You two are amazing!!!!!! KUTGWork

Barb--- You nailed it :!: Organizing is a must and is up to each of us to do it -- and get it straight. I use a rough copy, manual , homemade sheet, designed to my large systems. Then I transfer info to The Martinwatch Data sheet at a later time. I must stay on top of the operation , or it's unmanageable,,, no absenses for me during the period of April through June. Vacation in July--- but not sooner.

Tony, it's so important to keep accurate records and send them into the PMCA at the end of the season. It's the only way to be able to decifer what's going on in the Martin population... to spot trends... compare regions... identify problem areas... etc. All this in an effort to improve the nesting chances and survival rate of Martins in years to come.

With that all said, I have to admit I have all my data from last year but haven't compiled it on the PMCA form yet nor sent it. It's not too late, is it?

Tony

It would only take me about 2 1/2 hours to drive to Seguin to see that Martin Farm,,,are you accepting visitors?

Tony's records are sent in to PMCA for Project Martinwatch each year, and I cannot tell you how valuable his data (and YOUR data, all of you reading this) is. As Barb says, the data is needed so we can compare nesting success of martins on a regional basis and it is hoped this information will help us determine if declines of martins in some areas, such as MI, WI, MN, is related to poor breeding success - or will tell us that nesting success is NOT the cause for declines, pointing us to look elsewhere.

Barb & others, it is not too late to send in data from previous years - it does not matter how many years old those records are, if you did regular nest checks (every 5-7 days) and filled out the Martinwatch forms, we can add them to the data already collected.

I am enjoying using the PMW forms for nest records this year - it makes it easy to keep consistent records. I'd like to encourage landlords to participate - we need your help in collecting range wide information about martin nesting success.
