Well after 3 weeks of a lone second year male bird and multiple other visitors morning, afternoon and evening he finally had a second year female with him this morning. I watched from the house and porch for probably a half hour. They had particular interest in one gourd and were going in and out of it. I ended up walking out to take a closer look at the female and was able to watch her for about 10 minutes standing about 10-15 feet away from the gourd rack and then she took off and didn't return. The same male stayed as I can tell him apart due to the one purple feather on the one side of his chest.

I can't help but think if I had stayed on the porch she probably would have stuck around a little longer.

Oh well.... I watched pot never boils.

Here in another 6-7 weeks I'll start getting hundreds of fledgling visitors from the carry over on the Nimisila Roost. Even though I'm not a Landlord my season basically starts in mid July with all the hatching year birds checking out my digs.

Mitch,
It will probably be ok as she had a good look at your offerings, he may go round her up again. But it never hurts to leave the martins alone until they choose your place. I would stay away from them at first, give them a chance, you are an added distraction that don't help. The birds know you are there just stay back next time.
Good Luck

IMHO if they are going to move in I don't think you could DRIVE them away :-). Maybe over stated a bit, but there is still some truth in there :-).

Mitch--do you have any natural gourds in your setup? I have found that SY birds will almost always go to them first if they are available. I gave a couple to my brother-in-law, who had been trying for several years without them, and he got his first two pairs this year and they both built in the naturals. And I agree with Willbird that she will be back if she liked it. Good luck!
