As of today, I have 8 Purple Martins - 3 pair ASYs (males and females) and 2 ASY males who still need mates. Last night I picked up 4 or 5 SYs. Don't know yet if they are staying around or paired up.
This morning my phone rang and it was a neighbor calling to say that one of my Martins had a Starling down on the ground fighting. I was getting into the shower, so I pulled on a top and a pair of jeans and ran out there, barefooted, bed-hair, wet grass and all. By that time, the Starling had left, but my neighbor was coming toward me out of his garage. I had just given him a Purple Martin brochure a couple of days ago. I was really touched by his new interest in my birds. Another neighbor, who also received a brochure, came by the other day and thanked me for the info and wanted to make sure I had predator guards on my poles! (I do!)
This is only my third year as a Landlord, but it gets better all the time!

destroyed by HS!
2012- 12 pair (10 nesting pair), 48 Fledglings!
2013 - 17 pair - 80 Fledglings!!
