Had a starling invasion in a porched crescent SG last year, so I wanted to try the new Excluder II gourds available.

The gourd rack has 4 SG porched crescents, 2 S&K porched crescents, and 2 of the new Excluder II with porches for a total of 8 gourds. I wanted to give a variety so as to see what fills up first and see a preference.

Got my first ASY male yesterday March 26 (Sunday). The male quickly had a female interested. I did not see if they stayed over last night.

But, tonight I saw the male easily coming ang going from the new Excluder II. At 6:45, both the male and female went in for the night and they went inside the Excluder II gourd. They may eventually switch gourds over time, but it let me know that they can learn the entrance within a day.

This was a relief becuase I hadn't seen any history on the new Excluder II gourd, but they navigated it fine.

This morning after my martins went on their morning poop flight, they returned and the weather was very nice. I noticed they hung around and were taking an interest in all the new gourds I had up. A pair that have claimed the prize top level Supergourd facing due east with a cresecent entrance on the established gourd rack started looking at an Excluder with an excluder entrance I had put up. I only have the two and bought them out of curiosity. They both went into the gourd with no hesitation at all, and it was the first time I have ever had any martins enter an excluder entrance. They stayed in the gourd for about 30 minutes then off they were to feed.

They probably won't be claiming that gourd but it was really nice to see them enter it. I think I'll be ordering excluder entrances for now on after seeing that.

Its great to hear that martins going in excluder 11 holes. I just converted all my houses and gourds to excluder 11 entrances. Still waiting here in southern NJ for first martins to show. My PM's arrive around april 14th. Hope my PM's can make the transition.
