Hi, The Martin's are now all gone as of Yesterday here and cleaning up has begun. I would say a successful year but heavy Merlin pressure claimed many Martin's. I was just reading the latest issue of the Update and in the article about the Schwenke's I see they are using wire cages for added protection. I was wondering if anyone has pictures or instructions/ advice on adding this to T-14's? I saw the Merlin penetrate the Owl guards so more protection is needed.
Thanx,
Rob.

Hi Rob.
Hopefully more folks enter in.
I did see a photo posted by forum member "~Ray~04" sometime back, that showed some if his housing with wire cage type guards added.
If you click on the following link, scroll to the second photo Ray posted.
You'll see a close up shot of his T-14, with the guard added, and you can kind of make out the way he fastened it to the house.

- Martin Colony History: It took me 11 years to get martins. It finally happened in 2010! Been going strong, ever since! I have a 12-gourd rack, full and overflowing!! I love this hobby!
Here's another post about aerial predator protection that might have some information useful to you: http://www.purplemartin.org/forum/viewt ... yatt+guard And here's some more info, with spec's of which direction to turn the wire, if you use a wire cage: http://www.purplemartin.org/forumarchiv ... guards.htm
Sorry about your bad predation problem. Hope you can find something that will help; wishing you a better season next year.
