Purple lovers,

I have about six coons that come every night to eat the bird seed at my feeders. Knowing that they are great climbers I installed 8 inch water pipe that is about 4 ft long on all my poles. Do you believe this is sufficient protection against the coons from climbing the poles.I also have a nesting bluebird couple with eggs on an eight foot post...It also has a water pipe around the post... Thank You for any responses.....

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

That is exactly what I use and it has worked for me for many years (about 15 years). I did hear of a report that a racoon can climb a 6in pvc pipe, but I have never seen it..I also have 4in pvc pipe for my bluebird houses, and I had 1 racoon get into house 3ft about the ground, so I raised the house and had no more problems.

I think you are 99% safe, but who knows what they can do?
