I am looking to increase the size of my PM colony. I presently have a MK12 Alum. (enlarged compartments) house with gourds attached below.

Due to my limited budget, I am planning on adding a plastic style PM house. If any one has any experience with plastic housing please offer any advice or recommendations on this will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Most of the basic starter S&K houses are fine. They have a new product to hang gourds that's very functional and economical. Look for their new "block" with six arms. It's fits their triangular pole. I haven't priced it out but I don't think you can get a setup much less than for the block, six gourds and pole. Add a plastic flagpole top and it's classy.

I have two the S & K red barn and a Blitz. Both are easily modified and shape looking housing. I favor the Red Barn over the Blitz due to it's flimsy style hinge points on the doors. I have also had to rand wire runners on the sides to stiffen the blitz house up to keep the doors on when I zip tied them after the little peg broke off and they don't snap closed very well can easily be pulled open.

What ever house you choose I would expand the compartments using the L shaped design IMO this protect them better by not being right at the entry hole and out of sight in the hidden cavity. A couple you might have to make straight expanded cavity to get full service of all compartments even a straight expanded cavity IMO is better than a single 6 X 6 compartment.

A house I find attractive is the S & K Bo Bungalow, A little more expensive but comes with larger compartments and far as I can tell you don't have to modify it.

Another vote for the S&K Red Barn. I just put one together and modified it to have 6"x12" nests. The mod was easy as S&K has made it easy to convert to 2 compartment nests.

The new Bo Bungalow looks good as well. I'm sure it's a great house but a little more expensive than the Red Barn.
