Does anyone have plans for a winch system? I am specifically looking for a system that will allow the cable to go inside the pole. I think Lonestar houses and modified Troyer houses use something like this. I am building some experimental housing and this method would work best for what I'm doing.
Pics. are always helpful; thanks.
Plans for winch system?

you may wish to send an email to T.Seber, he posts on this forum and he has homemade poles, he has made a bunch of them

They are not hard to make. I don't have plans drawn out as such, but can tell you how I do it. Welding skills would be helpful, but not essential. Putting the cable inside the pole is pretty easy, if it is done while the system is being built. It is possible after the system is built, but is more difficult.

I will be happy to share photos and instructions with anyone who wants them. Different setups require different approaches. Email me and explain what you are doing, what your plans are, gourds or houses, what type of rack you have in mind, do you have welding ability or will you need to bolt things together, etc.
I have mounted both houses and gourd racks with the cable inside the pole, each system requires a little different approach.

For what it is worth, this is how I made mine which was taken from ideas shared on the forum and this is my interpetation of those ideas. Thanks for all who contributed their ideas.
I used a 2" square thick wall with a 1' receiver cut in two to make 4 6" slicing members connected by small chain. The anchor post is 6" angle which is over kill but it is what I found at the junk yard. The standoff for the winch is made from 3 ft of the 2" square cut off and mounted on the back side of of the angle.

Fastmore,
Why do you have the winch mounted so far from the mast? Does it fold up against the mast when not in use?

Yes Joe the winch is hinged so it will fold up and the cable holds it snug. The reason for mounting it out like that to get your head out of the circle of death in case the cable breaks the rack comes crashing down for whatever reason.

Well, thats something I have not thought of. It would indeed be an unwelcomed event, having all that parafanalia crashing down on your head. Good Idea!

I think Chuck Abare introduced that idea to us ans I thought it was the way to go. The 2" square shown here is mine and I have just finished one for the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge here in Decatur. We hope to put it up next week and I will try to post pics of it, it is made of 2" round with a 2 1/2" sliding member with 1/2" rebar 6" long 8 up and 8 down for mounting the 40" standoffl that hold the gourds and perch rods.

Sounds like you have been busy getting ready for his season. Good luck. I'll keep a lookout for the pics when you post them.

I think it might have been Terry Washburn who suggested mounting it on a folding arm. Attached is a photo from his retired web site.
