I live in Delaware and for the past two weeks I have had a Coopers Hawk hanging around and attacking birds at my feeders. What are the chances that he or she will stay here all spring and summer and begin attacking any purple martins I might get? Is anyone familiar with the migration patterns of this hawk species? I am wondering if the hawk will migrate north once spring comes. So far it is a mixed blessing as the hawk seems to be attacking MAINLY starlings at my suet feeders. He did get one of my mockingbirds though as the mockingbird fed on holly berries. I felt terrible as I loved that pair of mockingbirds.

- Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.
I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.
At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.
At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.

Hay Carlton--I'm sorry about your mockingbird,
I have a pair that always raise their young at our place. About the Coopers Hawk, I don't know if he will migrate away. I have seen one in my yard this year also and hope he leaves. I think it might be good to take down your feeders down for awhile, since he has been successful with finding a meal or two, that could be a start to get him to look elsewhere. I know that Coopers Hawks nest as far south as central texas and maybe further, so I don't know if he will move on in the spring or not. Hopefully one of the experts here will put in there advice. I hope things turn out for the better and keep us updated. Hope you have a good season!

Hey Carlton--Being the hick that I am, please forgive my misspelled words. I was in too much of a hurry and didn't reread anything until I saw it posted.
Have a good one!

I am afraid there is a very good chance the Coop will stay. You are in their year round range.
