can't get pole out of base in ground

I need to replace the cable on a Lone Star Goliad. The pole can't be lifted out of the base in the ground. Any suggestions???

Lee you should be able to just attach your new cable to the end of the old cable and crank it up and over the pulley and back down to the wench.
Just unattach the old cable at the base of the house and tie the new one to it. The house will stay down. Then cut and reattach to the house and attach it to the wench.
It's really a Monday so I hope I made any sense at all! I've done this once and will be doing it again this season to my two houses.

Lee, do not tie a knot in the cable - the knot will not go through the pully. Home Depot has connectors that will fit your cable, and they will go through the pully. These connectors are made to be crimped on.
Also, if you do need to change the pully you can break the pole loose with a monkey wrench.

You can break the pole free from the ground socket by using a hydraulic jack. Place the jack on a board on the ground and run a piece of 2X4 from the top of the jack to the bottom of the wench. You should then be able to jack the pole free from the socket or raise it enough to loosen it and then pull the pole out. Be sure to have someone to help you control the system when it's pulled free.
