This is my second attempt to post. I don't believe the other one made it past my ipad! Here is my contribution...
I can't bring myself to kill the HOSP; I know I should, but can't. For the past four years we have been trapping the bird, and trimming the first five primaries on the wings. See: Sialis.com under controlling sparrows for more information. We had a problem with HOSP when we first put up our PM gourds and BB boxes. Cutting the wing feathers has been a real help. The problem is now occasional and basically at the beginning of the season. The feathers grow back after the mating season. Check out the site if interested.
