Hi Sue,
Hertel is only about 8 miles from me. I actually live 14 miles west of Shell Lake. Something must have scared her martins off. There are lots of owls in this country. It is hard to say really.
Yes, I had 7 pair last year, and all fledged babies. I think there may still be asy's coming up this way. I only have 7 birds, and I haven't seen any new asy's in about a week. I did have a pair that came in last Friday, and then left last Saturday night around 7:15 pm. They stayed in a gourd I have a camera in, and I couldn't believe they didn't come back. The weather had been nasty all day and it wasn't a good day for them to find bugs. I hope they got to where ever they were going safely. I will try to send some martins your sisters way if I get too many.
Here comes the heavy snow?
Thanks for the infor and for the offer to send martins my sister's way. She is disappointed right now, I know. They live on a lake, and have a great fly-way because of an old cranberry marsh. There are bugs galore. Her gourds are the kind that have the tunnels in them. Maybe she will get some SY's when they come.
