Annie, If possible, definately try wood housing. I had many years of frustration with aluminum housing, most years having zero martins. I don't want to offend anyone with aluminum housing but here in the northern climates I am a believer in wood housing. In my area there are also aluminum houses with martins but there are many, many more aluminum houses that are empty. There are many quality wood houses available, mine happen to be the T-14 style. This past season I had nesting pairs in 29 of 32 compartments, two of the empty compartments were in the gourds I had hanging under the houses. Best of luck. Chuck
John and Patrick, Thanks so much for the responses. I am sorry its taken me so long to respond but my computer has been down for almost a month. John, I am putting up a wooden house this spring in a nice spot near where I put out egg shells. I've counted at least 22 martins at one time eating the shells this summer. Maybe the wooden house will do the trick. And Patrick if its not too late, I would love to have acouple old nests of yours. I will pm you. Thanks again!! Ann
