Your right, he was meant to survive and hatched at just the right place.
The numbers of bird pairs really don't matter, small colonies, well maintained, and sucessful fledges is what matters in the end. I admire those who do, and wish I had a big colony but I'm thinking now more quality and a manageable colony to ensure their comfort and success. Ill eventually go to 18 gourds at home, enough for me...few years away but will go that route. Sounds like your there.
I consider a rehabber to be a facility able to attend to local wildlife and birds, willing to take them in and are staffed for their needs, even if they are volunteers. Last time I took a martin in to ours (really specializes in sea life and birds), they had baby woodpeckers, turtles, sea birds, ducks you name it. Iv only gotten two calls back to pick them up after drop off...think everyone on here would be extremely attentive to a chicks needs, however some of their needs go beyond food, thus a rehabber...even if I drive away thinking ill never get the call to come get them. Its insurance, maybe, just maybe they can help.
I too love reading the old threads, ill pick a topic and hit search, amazing how much info is here.
I hope you will stay active on the forum, lots of new folks here, lots like me are right in the middle of landlording, many have 20 plus years yet we all support and help each other.
