I wish I could!! I have quite a few videos taken on my phone, but when I download them they become MP4 files and are too big to send via email or any other way. Taking pictures is almost impossible. They're too fast and the tree they're roosting in is thick with foliage. The videos I've taken are really lucky breaks... I may have to wait until next May. The first brood shows end/April and the tree's foliage hasn't come in yet, so they're more obvious--they're also the first to arrive from migration so there's no competitional sounds from other birds.

Why doesn't this correspondence system allow .mp4 extensions? That's the prompt I get when I try to attach one. I have no idea what photobucket is.. I tried to find it online and got something but it limited the file to 500 Mb and didn't allow .mp4 extensions. Sorry..

Thanks for trying. I really think my best bet is to go to the Corps of Engineers who manage the parks along our dikes. Perhaps they have an ornithologist on their staff. I can take my phone and computer and show them what I have.

ttfn..

Another approach...the PMCA has a very active Facebook page. Facebook seems to readily accept video -- especially of cats, ha. Anyway, if you are on FB, go there and say this is purple martin video from Washington that you tried to put here. John Miller

Martin Colony History: Long interested in Purple Martins, pole up 2017 retired 2024 and trying harder this year!

Ren, please contact me at the address in my profile. I may have a solution. Most email has a 25 MB limit, even so called unlimited email such as a Gmail account is going to have problems with a file larger than 500 MB. Happen to have some web space that is barely being used. (846.5 MB of 4.88 GB) so that means I have just over 4 GB available. Can set up a temporary account where you can upload a large .mp4 and I can edit it down to just the relevant parts then post a link so others can view.

Just a wannabee who wants to help... Also quite curious about this since western PMs are known to still nest in natural cavities.

OK, that's it, I'm done! I've literally spent HOURS trying to crop videos and upload them, to no avail....

Yesterday, a member of the Canyon Birders group came by and downloaded all my videos. Two members looked through the videos and think that my birds are Starlings, but they're not positive. I have reservations about this for a few reasons: 1) my birds don't look like the pictures of Starlings online, nor do the vocalizations sound like my birds; 2) the beaks of the Starlings are all light in color, my birds' beaks are dark; and 3) the beaks of my birds seem to be longer than the Martins that are pictured online. Also, Starlings are ubiquitous--my birds arrived probably 1990-1995, and seem to be few in number (compared to Starlings..). Sooooo....

If any of you who've been following this thread are interested in having a copy of my downloads, please email me at [email protected] and we can work something out from there with thumbdrives. To those of you who've offered comments and assistance, thank you so very much for your time! I've enjoyed our conversations!

I will try to get some .jpg's in April/May of next year before the trees are fully leafed, and I'll post what I get, here.

'Til then, Aloha and best wishes!
