Grant,
I recently just order the H Stands for my owl guards. So I will be posting all the pictures of the process kinda what Jose did! Goodluck!

P.S. I also squeezed the wires close together in the front just a bit.

Grant,

I used these DIY owl guards towards the end of the season last year when I introduced the new pole system to the site. The Martins loved them and would go in and out of the gourds easily. My pairs have already had their gourds picked out. Since this photo all the gourds have tunnels now. This season 16 of the 24 gourds have these DIY owl guards. We will see what happens. P.S. I did not add the end caps on the new DIY owl guards this season. I was a bit over protected last season. Good luck to everyone!

Jose,

Love that last picture. Glad to see and hear the Martins adapted to the guards so well.

just completed half a dozen owl guards based on the design provided by Jose. Folded back 2" (rather than 1) of the H-stand at one end to insert into the screw holes at the back of the Bo9 gourd and covered the two hooks produced with silicon aquarium air hose to provide a solid non-slip fit. It doesn't look like screws will be needed at either the front or back with this addition but time will tell. Have also left both cross bars on the H-stands. Second one lies above and forward of the exit from the tunnel. Thought it might produce a touch more protection as the martins leave the next.

Anyway my compliments and thanks to Jose for posting his great idea for DIY owl guards for the Bo9. They look great and have cost less than $2 per guard.
