kathy,
no, when i ment i release them, its in a (dirthole) as far as a full time job, killing off these sparrows allways will be. i work crazy hours and do my nest cks the best i can,and always had, and will. my wife helped me alot with that , but had a severe stroke last yr at 47 ,last summer and cant do it when im gone, so i do the best i can, she cant lower the houses when im gone and raise them as she onece was able to, but still helps me when im home, she helps with feeding, makes eggs ect, for my feeders, she does what she can.im with you all,the only good sparrow is a dead one, im with you all, fight the good fight.
its crazy, 30 yrs ago, when i was in highschool, i lived in the country, my neighbor had martins, ( facinated ) me!, he had a old wooden house, so i made one in shop class. his pivioted on a wood pole, knock the pin out, and it tilted. thats how he cleaned it out, tried to control sparrows., but once he tilted it, half his martin eggs would fall out of the rooms.so i made my house . with screws to open each compartment, for cleaning, but my pole was different. it lowered in stages with holes drilled thru the center , with two guys, you could lower it as one was taking out the pin or replacing it .look how far we have came. somtimes nature takes over, it had to back then, because we never knew, or did, the things were doing now back then, and are birds survived.
they say every living thing has a purpose, the Wood tick, Sparrow, i Cant come up with a answer for that, , but Kathy, what i have learned, there are bigger fights in life, and its not the sparrow, but i try, and ill continue that fight to save our birds!.
Respectfully- pmcharter1

If you can open this older article (link below) about Ron Seekamp, a former MN "Landlord of the Year," it contains a photo of a house pole system like you have considered, I think. Scroll down and look at photo on right midway. It's a pole that has several parts and so as the house is lowered, the house swings outward but remains level.

I am mostly posting this for fun -- the pole probably is too complex, and a better alternative may be as most folks do today -- placing a house on a winch and running the pole up through the middle of the house so it can be lowered straight down. But I do think the tilting pole system is kind of cool.
