I've got a banded PM!!!

Are the bands being switched over to the colored plastic bands that are easier to read or to a mixture of both?

My scope should be here on Saturday, so I'll start attempting to figure out the numbers then. He's very settled in here, so barring accident or predator attack (knock on wood), it doesn't look like he is going anywhere. I'll do my best to get the numbers with the scope first. If that doesn't work, I'll figure out a way to trap him in the gourd. It's a crescent, so I'm not sure how I can do it just yet. If it gets to that point, I've handled lots of birds in my time (vet tech with parrot/various birds). He won't get hurt.

My thanks to all you banders out there and your passion for the work. Things like the bands make PMing so much more interesting - not that it wasn't before. Thanks!

I hope that you are able to get that band number and post it for us all to see...hopefully you can get a response w/ that number as to where he came from....interesting!!!!!!!, i sure want to know.Good luck w/ your new scope...i've tried binoc's but just can't seem to get them tuned in right.

I agree. The binoculars seem to be too unsteady to read the numbers. It's not as windy today, so I'll give it another go (my scope isn't here yet). I'm willing to bet money the tripod on the scope will help tons (as has been suggested).

Shelley, Don't know if this has been tried but I have just installed my Aqua Vue underwater camera on a gourd cap (works great - one less thing to buy).
No reason why one couldn't mount a web cam (or an aqua vue) on a perch - pointing lenght wise, frequented by a banded bird. I am going to try this out this season.
